Description: The original was painted in 1851 by Sir John Everett Millais, and hangs currently in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. Millais was one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, and was only 22 when he painted the original masterpiece. The bridesmaid is passing a morsel of wedding cake through the wedding ring nine times, after which she will foresee her future loved one. That is why she looks distant, for what she sees is in her mind's eye. The model was a Miss McDowall. |
