Description: Two Russians standing in Red Square in 1996, with the walls of the Kremlin and Lenin's tomb in the background, and a light rain falling. I like this because he has a sort of out-of-town open-faced innocence as if he is visiting the big city for the first time, while there is an element of desperation haunting her face. The USSR had not long broken up, and there was plenty of poverty. I remember the GUM store was half empty and had some counters selling old TV circuit boards. |
